There is a lot of talk about the value of diamonds, but how should one go about selling a piece of diamond jewelry?

Go to an estate jewelry store. There are many in the LA/NY jewelry district.

But go to a few so you don't get jipped.

If it's really expensive, you shold have a GIA certificate showing it's value.

if you have a nice sized diamond and your wanting to sell it you should like he said have it certified. I hear that GIA certification is about 500$. Kinda expensive just to get it appraised. If your in the LA area there is a company called EGL which is a lab just like GIA but a bit cheaper. I think its like 250$. But dont get a third party to look at the diamond because most people dont really trust the appraisal. GIA, EGL, AGL are well known and trustworthty.

If your selling just one diamond i'd get it certified by GIA which is the most well known, it may be pricey but it brings more value in terms of selling it because of that certification assuming its a good quality. Selling a diamond is tough, people who are in the market of buying one are experienced and know what they want in size, shape, clarity, and color, so if you have a quality diamond that most people are looking for your chances in selling it shouldnt be too difficult.

When selling a diamond you should look at something called a rappaport report. this is a buying and selling guide for diamond wholesalers. Anything from 20%-40% under rappaport value is a pretty good selling price.
